Editorial Standards
The Deep End Guide exists to give you genuinely useful, honest guidance — the kind you'd get from a knowledgeable friend, not a sales pitch. These are the standards every article is held to.
Real experience, not rewritten specs
Our guidance comes from first-hand experience: actually owning and maintaining a pool, and learning to swim as an adult. Where we recommend or describe products, we aim to base it on hands-on use and honest observation — including the downsides. When we haven't personally tested something, we say so and frame it as "what to look for," never a fake first-hand review.
How we test and recommend
- We explain why a product suits a particular reader, not just that it's "the best."
- We call out when a cheaper option is genuinely good enough.
- Recommendations are based on what serves you — never on which product pays the most commission.
- Where useful, we describe our testing conditions so you can judge the results yourself.
Accuracy and sourcing
For safety and technical topics — water safety, pool chemistry, equipment — we reference recognized authorities such as the CDC's Healthy Swimming program, the American Red Cross, the EPA, and manufacturer safety data sheets and labels. We don't fabricate statistics or citations. If we don't have a solid figure, we describe the range and explain why it varies.
Safety first
Swimming and pool chemicals carry real risks. Our content includes safety notes and is educational only — it is not a substitute for professional, in-person swim instruction, lifeguard supervision, or a certified pool operator. Always follow product labels and never mix pool chemicals.
Corrections and updates
We keep articles current and show a "last updated" date where relevant. If you spot an error, please tell us at hello@example.com — we'll review and correct it promptly.
